Jerrod leaned against the doorframe now that Jacques was gone, moving to sit on the toilet before speaking again.

“Harley? He’s at my house. I didn’t know when I’d be running into you again,” he said, taking another taste of his Ring Pop. Honestly, he didn’t know why he liked the things, especially since he didn’t eat sugar much. In fact, he didn’t have a history of eating them, but here he was. It baffled him.

“How have things been going at home? Are your parents still giving you static?” he asked, examining his fingernails and grimacing when he saw black dirt hiding under them. He started to wonder where he’d gotten it, but remembered that it was from charcoal.

Damn, he thought, anxious to get it out. People might be surprised to learn that, despite his calm exterior, he hid some nervous tics, one of which was having dirt under his fingernails. In a stroke of genius, he ran his finger over a canine tooth, feeling his tooth loosen and remove the coal. Relieved, he smiled and looked back up at Lucy.

“Sorry. Had some dirt under my nail,” he said, feeling it necessary to apologize for whatever reason.

"Aw, I'm going to hold you to your word," she said pointing her index finger at him. Lucy really did act like his little sister, but she didn't mind it. She really liked Jerrod, even more than her own brother. It was a little harsh but she doubted her nrother even really thought about her, he was off getting his doctrate and trying to start a family. He didn't even talk to her much, maybe the visit during the holidays but that was it. "Well, you will have to get it to me soon." She nodded her head, then took another lick of her candy.

"They haven't been saying anything lately. Marie just got a scholarship to some important university even though she's not going to college for three more years," she shrugged. Most girls would be sad or mad that there younger sibling was doing better off than them. Lucy didn't really care, she was apathetic towards both ehr siblings, and they returned the same emotion. "My parents have been showering her with presents." This part had more of a sneer. Lucy didn't care that her parents ignored her, but when they started to show more affection to one of her siblings in front of her is when she was mad. It really wasn't fair, the only time she got presents was her birthday and Christmas. Which she was surprised that she actually got nice gifts, she was waiting for them to start give her socks.

"It's okay," she nodded happily. "So what have you been doing today besides getting dirt nder your nails?" She tilted her head curiously. Usually she didn't care what The Hatter did, she left him his privacy. She had no idea what he had been doing to people in Oxford, Lucy was still close to him it wasn't like not knowing every detail about him prevented her from being friends with him. Today she was in a curious mood though.

Jerrod sat there, scraping coal from under his nails as he listened to Lucy talk about the situation between her and her parents. He really didn’t like the way they treated her, but it wasn’t like there was anything he could do short of killing them.

One thing he’d always wondered since he met Lucy was about the fact that her siblings seemed to be doing so well while she seemed like the proverbial black sheep of the family. He figured that every family had to have one; every family except for his, that is. Since he didn’t have any siblings to be compared to, he didn’t even know if his family even HAD a black sheep.

Then again, HE could be the black shepp. He had killed people before and wouldn’t stop any time soon, hopefully. In fact…

“What have I been doing today? Oh, well, just nothing, really. Just working on stuff, I guess,” he said, careful to dodge the fact that he’d been planning a murder the last few days. He’d even dropped off a note at the police station for the detective who he’d found out had been working on his case. It had taken some coercion on his part, and it had been a tough job, but he’d gotten the information he needed. Now, all he had to do was make sure that Detective Mason got his clues before (and after) he’d taken care of his victim.

“What about you?” he asked, not quite sure that she would leave his vague answer alone. Hopefully, he could think up a lie convincing enough to assuage her curiosity. If not, he’d just change the subject or leave, depending on what the situation warranted.

She nodded at the answer, it was such a cliche answer. The answer Jerrod gave her usually meant to move on the conversation. Also if he had said 'nothing' she was also supposed to mean move on. Of course this really never applied to Lucy. She had never heard that curiousity killed the cat, anyway she would probably just say she wasn't a cat. "Stuff is such a mysterious word," she said not really directing it to Jerrod. "What might this stuff be?" Now the second part was intended more for Jerrod. Soon Lucy would forget about the subject and move on.

Though her mind wandered off a little. When she thought about it, Jerrod really always seemed to be doing his own thing. He was quite mysterious and she was not allowed over. Well she had actually never asked to come over to his house, or invited over for that matter. It was something she had never thought about but it wasn't like she invited Jerrod over to her house. She doubted her parents would want toknow she was hanging with someone eleven years older than her. Before he could ask her another question she made a suggestion. "You should come over to my house for dinner one night." This was probably a very bad suggestion that resulted from her being high, but Lucy was actually have serious.

"The norm," she shrugged. Lucy really didn't break her day to day life. She would wake up, sometimes have breakfast with her parents, get high and see where things went from there. Her daily sheldule never really consisted of anything exciting. Once in awhile she would break her habit and not get high until the late night but this usually resulted in her not feeling so good in the morning. She leaned against the mirror that hung against the sink. Looking around she thought about how wonderful it was to be having a conversation in a bathroom. It was such an unusual place but Lucy rather enjoyed it.

Jerrod let out an inaudible sigh of exasperation. Was she really going to press it, even when he’d given her a pretty big signal that it was time to move on? He didn’t exactly blame her, considering that was how she was when she was high, but it was grating his nerves the wrong way, which wasn’t a good thing, unfortunately.

“I really don’t consider the word ‘stuff’ to be all that mysterious. In fact, the stuff that I’ve been doing isn’t all that mysterious either,” he said, doing his best to steer the conversation in another direction. It wasn’t like he was going to tell her if she asked, but he didn’t want to stay on that topic for too long. Murder was never something he liked to discuss with anyone else, regardless of how many clues he left for the police and especially how many bodies he left in random locations around Oxford that nobody really gave a second thought to look in. Thankfully, Lucy said something that made the conversation do a wicked spin-flip.

“Dinner at your house? Do you really think your parents would like that?” he asked. Although he really didn’t care what her parents thought, and especially what they thought of him, but he didn’t want to disrespect them.

That thought made him chuckle. He was a serial killer, for crying out loud, and he didn’t want to disrespect her parents? It’s not like he wouldn’t have killed them for her if she asked him, or even if he felt the whim to suddenly whack them, but he wondered how Lucy would feel if she found out her best friend had killed her parents; probably an odd mix of pity, disgust, fear and a hint of gratefulness. Who knew? Maybe he’d tell her his “horrible secret” one day, but that day wasn’t coming any time soon.

Lucy looked at him, dumbfounded. She didn't really know how to reply to that. She was just overall confused even though it wasn't actually that confusing at all. She raised an eyebrow, taking another lick from the candy. Her head turned away from Jerrod momentarily trying to come up with a witty reply back. She came up blank though. "Anyway..." she trailed off. For a few seconds she thought of something to reply back then her attention was brought of the subject altogether.

"Yes, you should come over. My parents wouldn't mind," she said. Lucy wouldn't really think they would mind, okay maybe that was a little lie. She was sure her parents would dissaprove but with some convincing they would allow Jerrod over. They would have to at least put on some kind of front on for a guest in their house. "Then you could meet my sister," she nodded and gave him a smile. "She won't be messing with me anymore." It wasn't like Lucy was always getting picked on by her younger sister but her sister did like to rub it in her face that she was going to go somewhere in her life.

Jerrod pondered Lucy’s reply. Could he really survive a dinner with her parents? Would it be all he needed to murder them both? He didn’t know, but he didn’t think that they could be THAT bad…after all, Lucy seemed to deal with it. It might even be worth going over there high just to freak her parents out. He figured ecstasy might be a little much, but when he was high, he started getting more philosophical and talking about subjects that most people didn’t even think about. With his experience, he could go into some topics that might cause her parents’ brains to melt down, which would be fun in and of itself.

“I don’t see why not. When?” he asked, not really saying anything else. He was too busy thinking about all the possible outcomes of his going over for dinner. Maybe he’d pose them an incredibly puzzling riddle and leave them stewing in their own incompetence. Sure, he might have sounded pretentious or arrogant saying that aloud to anyone, but it was true. Most people couldn’t solve basic riddles without some sort of assistance, the most popular form of which was solicited in the universal “Can I have a hint?” question. His mind flashed back to his adventure with Sivan that had started in a bookstore and digressed into a massive ecstasy roll, the product of which was a riddle that Sivan had some trouble with. After all, most people took the riddle apart piece by piece and analyzed the fragments rather than looking for hints in the riddle itself. More often than not, things as they were stated in a riddle weren’t things as people knew them to be, and this was probably what caused the most confusion. It was pretty funny, but eventually, most people broke down and gave the answer away. To him, it seemed like a weakness that most riddle posers possessed but then again, that weakness was synonymous with compassion.

She stuck the ring pop in her mouth suddeenly. Lucy thought about when she would have her friend over. Her thoughts were starting to settle down so she could remember what day it was. There was still part of her saying that she shouldn't have the man over but she ignored it. It was Tuesday right? Well she hoped it was. Lucy knew that they would be happy if she was at least sober when she asked them. They would have to say yes because she was going to bring him over anyway. Finally she settled on a date. Quickly she pulled out the candy and stuck her index finger up to the sky signalling she had figured it out. "I command you come to my house on Saturday."

The girl wasn't really forcing Jerrod to come over, she just wanted to temporarily sound like she had some power. Well, actually she felt more like a space commander. "Well is that okay for you?" she asked, her tone much different than before. She was more curious. Lucy really hoped this worked out and wasn't a complete disaster. Though there was another side that was telling her it was going to be a disaster no matter how much she wished it wasn't. Her parents would probably be scared of Jerrod, it wasn't like he even looked like a cheery figure. She looked at him her eyes full of wonder.

Jerrod raised an eyebrow.

“You command me? I’ll have to think about that,” he said. He knew she was just joking, but he had this strange habit of making sure that people knew that there were lines when it came to joking with him. That way, they weren’t ever really crossed and there weren’t any problems. He rarely had to reiterate this for Lucy, however, because she just seemed to get it.

“Saturday’s fine, just make sure that you tell your parents that I’m coming over for dinner. If I get there and they’re surprised, I’m gone,” he said, completely serious. He didn’t care how much he loved the girl, he just wanted to make sure he didn’t leave a bad impression on people he didn’t know. Sure, that might have sounded shallow, and he didn’t often care what other people thought of him, but he had a certain base amount of respect for everyone, even the people he killed. They were human beings, after all, even if he considered most people to be as disposable as napkins or paper towels.

He was probably more interested in what her parents thought of him because of the kind of person he was. He didn’t know for sure whether he gave off that “serial killer” vibe or not, but he tended to make most people shy away from him. Perhaps it was the fact that he rarely spoke unless spoken to, perhaps it was the fact that he looked dark and brooding; he didn’t know, and he really didn’t care for the most part. All he cared about was that people would leave him alone unless they needed something and even then, there were limits. Of course those didn’t apply for Lucy, but she was the only exception to this. Anyone else could go fuck themselves.

"I pinky promise that I will tell them," she smiled. Lucy held out her pinky, showing that she was being completely serious. Yes pinky promises were quite childish but Lucy took them very seriously. It was just kind of her thing, it didn't really matter if anyone thought she was just being dumb. Pinky promises also made her somehow remember that she had a comitment. She actually had to put herself ou there to make sure she didn't break it. If she ever did break a promise she wlways felt really bad. She must have been looking at the floor because she had to look bak up to see Jerrod. "I'm very happy now, I think you just made my day."

Lucy was telling the truth too. Having someone over was rare so she would have some company. This dinner would probably bring her parent's down from their pretty cloud a little. They might actually be able to see she was anything from being a plain jane loser. Maybe she didn't have her future planned out but she did have good friends. Who cared if the majority of them were addicts? They seemed to be better friends, then the sober ones she used to try to be friends with. Though she did have few friends that weren't addicts that were cool to her. "Who are your other friends Hatty? If you mind me asking?" she looked at him with a curious face. She never really heard him talk about them, or maybe he did and she hadn't been listening.
